The gaming industry is evolving every day and becoming much more accessible. Improving technology helps developers to create a game with very advanced graphics and mechanics, and now games are more realistic compared to the past.
There are many different games out there. Especially football games such as FIFA and football manager reached to a considerable number of sales and became a viral game series amongst football fans.
What kind of effects video games do have on football players?
It might sound quite boring since it’s already their job, however many football players play football digitally when they are not physically on the pitch. Video games might have different effects on football players.
1.Experience gained through video games

2.Getting to know your teammates
Krzystof Piatek, the Czech striker of Milan, confessed that he used his PlayStation and checked his teammates in the game to know them back in the day when he first signed for Genoa.
Krzysztof Piątek:
"I had no idea who my teammates at Genoa were when I signed. So I turned on my PlayStation and looked them up on FIFA."

3. Make players interact with themselves
I always wondered how I would feel to be able to play with yourself in a football game. Professional football players can do that. Furthermore, they sometimes react to their in-game-ratings, even complain about that. In a way, it is an interaction with yourself.
Wolverhampton players are reacting to their own FIFA 20 ratings.
4. Even goalkeepers might benefit video games sometimes
One of the hardest tasks is a penalty that a goalkeeper might face off. Former Palermo goalkeeper is thankful that he played FIFA video game back in the day. He explains “It was just like playing against him on PlayStation. He had the same run-up. It was very strange.” after he saved the penalty kick taken by Ronaldinho.
5.Video games are even suitable to get a job
Many football fans would like to be a professional football player or would like to work as an expert in the industry. Maybe even becoming a manager. Thanks to the gaming industry, it is now possible.
Vugar Huseynzade got the position of manager for Azerbaijani team Baku. He was only 22 back then. Thanks to his experience in football managing simulation games, he was able to impress a professional football club to offer him a manager position. Back in 2012, this position made him the youngest football manager.
Matt Neil is another young fan who benefit playing football video games. He started working as a researcher for the football manager game, and he was only 15. Then a professional football club, Plymouth Argyle, club noticed Matt’s talent and offered him as an analyst to provide data to the club. Matt says he has always played football manager. His experience in video games turned him as a job in the football industry.
Finally, I never thought you would benefit playing football video games either you are a professional player or just a fan. However, after some research i see that there is a lot you can gain from video games, in my opinion. Now they are super realistic that almost give you the same experience as if it is real football thanks to advanced technology. Who knows how will be the games and how they will impact the industry in the future.
