A Day in the Life; marketing placement

Since June, I have been working part-time at Full Frontal Marketing as a social media content coordinator. This blog post will walk you through my workday; the un-glamorous parts and the rewards that come with this placement. Continue on reading if you want to find out more about what this job entails.

Sunday 25th October

7:22 am

Have a full-body panic wake up because my body doesn’t need an alarm clock; instead, it makes me feel like I’m perpetually late for something. Not a great way to start your mornings but I’ve developed a good routine that sets me up for the day. I start with 10 minutes of calm breathing, letting my body readjust to being awake, performing a couple of OTT back-breaking stretches in my bed. I’m ready to get by butt out of bed and have my shower.

8:30 am

So by now, I’m showered and dressed. I head down to the kitchen, joined by my two housemates, for breakfast and the much-needed coffee. After a morning chin-wag and bowl of bran-flakes (yes, I know, old woman breakfast!) I go to my bedroom to set up at my desk.

9:00 am

Due to COVID, my placement was to be done virtually; this means I can do it will in Bournemouth alongside my studies. However, since it is done virtually, it means I’ve only met my boss Lewis once in person, and the rest have been done through Zoom calls. It has made the whole experience of my first marketing job a bit underwhelming, sitting in my bedroom on my laptop for 8 hours isn’t as fun as you may think. Thankfully, I enjoy the content I produce, and I have lovely housemates who keep me entertained!

I start by going through Asana to see if I have any correspondence from Lewis. Some weeks I will receive a message with a specific post that needs to be scheduled for a particular day; this will then be worked into my content scheduling for the coming week. Specific posts tend to be ones that the client want to be done (i.e. something personal about a staff member that their customers will relate to). Today, I found I had specific content for Halloweeeeeennnnnn to post (oooh spooky!).

Here is an example of the Halloween post created for a chiropractor client

9:30 am

After checking all the necessary communication avenues I have with Lewis, I open the Google Drive that holds images and video content that I will use for the client’s social media page—followed by logging into my Facebook creator pages and Buffer. I like to plan out each post and comment on a google doc first, this is a proportion in case the program glitches and deletes the unsaved posts.

10:30 am

The first client I schedule for is B2 Chalfont Clinic; they are a chiropractor/osteopathic clinic located in Chalfont St Giles. I have to create and schedule one post a day for their Instagram and Facebook, occasionally working with Google Business if they have a promotional offer. The content tends to be educational with light humour that is used to create engagement with their followers.

12:00 pm

Fast forward a few hours, and I’m on to the second client. Hinch Property Management Ltd is an industry-leading inventory report agents. Hinch requires less time spent on as I schedule around four posts a week for them. The content is posted to their Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, ranging from reviews to educational posts regarding deposit dispute and inventory report advice. Additionally, I research news articles that are surrounding estate agents, landlords and property investments to post on their social pages.

1:00 pm

LUNCH BREAK!!!!! oh and another coffee…

2:00 pm

Fast-forwarding once more, I am on to my final client of the day! The homestretch we shall call it. The last client I will work on is a man named Ben Boutler; he is a chiropractor who has created a brand around himself and his home-help books.  For this client, I work with Instagram and Facebook only; this is another four days a week post client. At this point, my back is aching from sitting at my desk and staring at a computer screen. Stretch time, using some of the knowledge I’ve gained from my work with the chiropractors!

4:00 pm

I’m done for the day, I log off and shut down my computer. I enjoy the work I do for Full Frontal Marketing, and Lewis (my boss) has helped give me the freedom to be creative and produce work of my own. This type of marketing is a tiny part of what Full Frontal do daily, while this is a small company and working virtually has meant I’ve only met one other staff member (that being Lewis) I enjoy the atmosphere we have.

  1. Dag Lilly, Goede Morgen,
