We are currently in the 21st century also know as modern age of advanced technology. A time where new incredible innovations are being implemented into our everyday lives. All the way from self-responsive cars to virtual reality interaction, we are slowly reaching a time where Albert Einstein’s renowned quote comes to reality, “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.”
If you are a die-hard fan of the gaming universe then fear not, this blog segment is meant for you!
Interactive technology has now been able to immerse gamers more then ever. With interactive video games where the real-world players choices will affect the outcome of the story line as they progress. It goes even further beyond with the latest virtual reality headset. A head mounted device (shown in the picture above) that places the players among the unique universe of the game.
Have you had the chance to watch the film ‘Ready Player One’? If you have then you are already one step ahead, as this segment of the blog will be exploring the world of gaming via Virtual reality. However if you haven’t watched the film hopefully this helps.
The reason to why I am pushing this movie a lot is because it does a remarkable job with its depiction of the universe of virtual reality. In the joe Rogan podcast, John Carmack goes on to explain how Virtual reality will in the future be affordable to people living in third world countries, as they can use this form of augmented reality to act as an escape of the difficult conditions they are experiencing in their day to day life. This basically means that owners of a virtual reality headset living in the poor parts of a country could simply transfer themselves to the richest parts of the world by simply putting on the headset. This act comes with many benefits, such as
- Enjoy the luxury of other parts of the world. ( if the price of an actual trip is to expensive).
- They could transfer themselves to a virtual reality classroom.
Very similar to what the main character of the film ‘Ready Player One’. As he uses this advanced technology to live a separate life through the goggles. So watch this movie and come back to this blog, make sure to also comment on this page about your opinions regarding the film.
Now back to reality. Lets talk about gaming and VR. Imagine a world where you can become the protagonist of your favourite movie or tv show, instead of simply watching your favourite character via tv , you the ‘viewer’ can now actually partake in the fictional protagonists world. A couple years ago that would’ve sounded surreal or even impossible, however we have now had our hands on multiple movie based games that allow the gamer to step inside the shoes of some of our most lovable characters.
Here are a couple of examples followed by the game trailers-
1- Iron man Vr
Journalist Tom Marks described the experience pretty well stating, ‘It’s a testament to how far VR games have come that I can spend hours at a time flying around in my very own Iron Man suit without feeling even the slightest bit of motion sickness.’
The Iron man game hit the video games industry in spectacular fashion as it hit 2nd in the weekly UK gaming chart. As well as 7/10 in IGN and finally a very impressive 8/10 in Push square.
2- Batman VR.
Once again journalist Dan Stapleton describes this experience really well, mentioning, ‘ Did I feel like Batman when I put on the mask and played ? Well, partly. Thanks to using the PlayStation Move controllers to interact with the environment I felt more like a detective searching for clues’.
Shown above are just some examples of renowned characters in the film cinematic universe that are now accessible in the form of Virtual Reality.
It is estimated that the global market in gaming will reach 48.2 billion dollars by 2026, as it will continuously be driven by advancements such as virtual reality.
Its clear to see the strong influence Virtual Reality possess on the world of gaming. Its also very clear that it doesn’t look like it will slow down anytime soon.
