They say admitting it is the first step, so I’m going to admit it: I have a problem. I have an ASOS shopping addiction. Don’t deny it, I bet you couldn’t help yourself from buying something from ASOS at least once in your life, whether it was a new T-shirt or a Hello Kitty bag. Please tell me I’m not the only one.
What is ASOS?
Shopping from ASOS? If not, then you need to. It’s an online shopping website which understands the stress on offline shopping. It stops you from having to leave your bed, get ready, take public transport or even worse, physically drive to the shops and struggle to find a parking spot. As well as this ASOS also stops you from sweating, hitting people in the crowds and waiting in never-ending queues to finally end up with nothing you like. We’ve all been there.
Clash of the fashion titans
Asos’s top competitors include AllSaints, House of Fraser, Farfetch, Missguided, New Look, Pretty Little Thing, Zalando, Boohoo and many more whom of which are all also e-commerce platforms. However, ASOS is winning, as always, as it’s strengths far more superior to its competitors. For example, it sells over 850 brands as well as its own range of clothing and accessories, strives to use innovative ways to display merchandise to customers and interactive ways to shop, including customer created looks, company edited fashion trends, and the ASOS marketplace. It connects with its consumers through social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, and Google+. If this isn’t good enough for you then it is also the UK’s largest independent online and fashion beauty retailer. Fact! More detail is provided in the infographic shown down below.

Reasons why ASOS is an addiction:
- Tailored content
ASOS can keep you scrolling up and down, from one section to another for hours on end. Once you’re already invested in one section, you somehow keep checking the others till you reach the very item on the webpage. It’s all in one, over 1000 of your favourite brands and over 87,000 products, you’ve got everything that you would possibly need including things that you never thought you would, all in a click.
- The new in section
You know the addiction is real when you find yourself on the ‘new in’ page multiple times a week. Admit it, even when deadlines are due and you’re so busy working on an essay or even just sat in a lecture, you’ll always find the ASOS window tab open ‘just in case’ for when you find something that you probably don’t need. But I guess it’s better safe than worry.
- 10% student discount
It seems like ASOS knows how tough student life can be. Living on a budget means you can’t really waste all your precious money on clothes, especially when you’re probably still wasting it on other things. Even though 10% discount may not seem a lot, it still makes you feel less guilty about placing an order. Every little counts.
- Free returns and premier delivery
There is nothing more annoying than having to return something because you don’t like it or its the wrong size. If you’re anything like me, you’d rather sell your things on Depop because you can never be bothered to send it back. With ASOS all you have to do is request a return and the postman will literally come to your door to collect your returning items. Would you believe it, the only step you have to do is hand your parcel over to the delivery man without even having to leave your house. If this isn’t enough, for £9.95, customers can get free next day delivery every time they purchase for a whole year, saving £5.95 per order! ASOS really truly does care about their customers after all.
