Made with 100% Pea Power!

Hi my Plant Powered Friends, and welcome back.

I hope you enjoyed last week’s post and laughed at Piers Morgan spitting out a vegan sausage roll! I’m sure he is now enjoying Gregg’s new vegan steak bake as he does his shopping…

Interestingly, it has been reported that Greggs staff are each being rewarded a £300 bonus after the vegan sausage roll has boosted their sales as Greggs explain how they have had a 9.2 increase in their sales. How inspiring!

Healthy Vegans

Anyway. This week’s blog post is regarding the health impacts of veganism. The digital era has meant we can connect through social media and follow all kinds of celebrities. Some celebrities that are vegan include; Natalie Portman, Ellen DeGeneres, Liam Hemsworth, Joaquin Pheonix, will.i.am and Toby Maguire. There are a lot more too. This doesn’t mean that all of these individuals actively promote veganism. Although at the Golden Globes awards Joaquin Pheonix, in his acceptance speech, used his voice to raise how there is a link between global warming and agriculture, asking celebrities to stop using their private jets…risky move! Influencers…

Places like Instagram have created a galore for people to become ‘Influencers’. Influencers are people with a high follower count and promote paid adverts through pictures and videos of themselves using these. This can be anything from a teeth whitening kit, to a car air freshener (…yep, I know).

Generally, people idealise and look up to these types of people and some of these influencers do use their follower count to promote for the greater good. This is an alternative way of impacting the world around us, as influencers and celebrities can direct a focus how veganism can affect you on an individual level.

An example of an influencer who promotes this is Grace Beverley. She based her Instagram account around promoting fitness, sharing work out videos and having a YouTube account. This included videos on how she lost weight, her vegan journey and becoming healthier and fitter. In favour of her gaining subscribers and followers she brought out a ‘Get Shreddy With Me’ fitness plan. This included meal planning and gym routines to follow which then helped fans lose weight.

whewwwww another 10,000 #TALAgirls coming in hot !! some explanations ???? Now, thanks to you, we can get reinvesting and bring ya bigger and better restocks can I get a wooHOOO! buckle in as within the next few weeks we will be dropping hella times the amount of stock we had for the first launch, all because of your support! Please bear in mind that coming straight in with tens of thousands of customers is incredibly AMAZING but also hard, because to buy materials and make more stock is expeeeeensive, especially for that many people, and we can’t actually get that money to reinvest before we sell what we CAN afford (which is not enough for our customer base). I hope to people disappointed by not being able to get what they wanted can understand that ? we will be able to do better and provide more as we grow, and trust me when I say that I would love to magic the stock to get to you just as much as you guys *VIP customers* (people affected by glitch so given early access): I’m so sorry if you didn’t get what you wanted. This VIP release was so you could make up for your previous order, and we wanted you to have priority as a thank you. As stated in your VIP offer email, we were unable to guarantee you’d get what you desired, but we wanted to make getting something possible! In addition to your refund, this was intended to be a nice gesture to say thanks ♥️ *To people who weren't on the VIP release who are confused re stock*: there were 7000 items in stock at 5pm, and I'm sure you'll understand that we gave VIP access to people who had money out of their account over the past week only to be refunded. Re stock, it takes 3-4 weeks to make stock, so this was ordered before we even had website sign ups. 10,000 units pre any profit is a huge investment and was the most we could afford. We may have a large customer base, but we are a start up and money isn't infinite. we are so so excited to see you all starting to receive your TALA goodies and again we would just like to thank you for all your patience, understanding and support as we grow ?? For any issues with existing orders, I will permanently have links to both B_ND and TALA socials linked in my bi

A Vegan Athlete?

A particularly interesting documentary I watched last year was called ‘Game Changers’ which is focused on the health impacts of a plant-based diet. This documentary starred James Wilks, an MMA fighter, travelling the world to find out the truth behind meat, protein and strength. Some of the work he spoke of was an experiment of getting three NFL players, one to eat meat, and the other two to eat plant-based food. We watched as it had a big effect on the individuals and particularly the meat eater.

It is said that in athletes, it is important that they can get blood travelling through their arteries, and when they expand it allows for more nitric oxide, oxygen and nutrients to muscles and organs which is reduced when consuming meat by 50% for six to eight hours.

He also studied that as arteries are linked to male’s private parts, how this could affect down there. He discovered that there was a 10% increase in erections with 3-500% increase in the duration of these from one single plant-based meal. If that doesn’t encourage men, I am not sure what will!

Your arteries are linked all over your body, so things like an erectile dysfunction problem can also trigger as a warning to risks of heart disease or threats of a heart attack.

Doesn’t milk make my bones grow strong?

A similar documentary called ‘Forks Over Knives’ focuses on the health benefits a vegan diet can bring, linking a regular consumption of diary produce to an increased risk of prostate cancer. It is also associated with ‘increased risk of lung cancer, breast cancer and ovarian cancer in people with lactose intolerance’s.’

Research has also shown that dairy products have little, if any, benefits to your bone health. Research undertaken by the British Medical Journal ‘more than 96,000 people found that the more milk men consumed as teenagers, the more bone fractures they experienced as adults.’

Milk and other dairy containing products are also known as the top sources for clogged arteries and saturated fat in American diets, with milk produce containing cholesterol.

Cow’s milk is designed for a baby cow to grow to an adult. It is full of things like blood, puss, and hormones (because female cows are kept pregnant most their lives), therefore the milk is tampered with to be white, or ‘pure’ although it isn’t designed for human consumption in the first place.

It is really that surprising that maybe it is not good for us after all?

Food for Thought

Small amount of red meat a day could increase the risk of bowel cancer by nearly 20%. On average, someone who ate bacon every day is more likely to live 2 years less than someone who doesn’t. Nitrates are added to meats to preserve humans from getting food poisoning – these are legal yes, but these are even more added chemicals.

A major 2006 study of 135,000 people found that those who frequently ate grilled skinless chicken had a staggering 52 percent higher risk of bladder cancer than people who never ate it. (PETA, 2019)

Next week I will be sharing a video of a handmade pizza – vegan food doesn’t have to just be veg.

Make sure you tune in!
